"Ben Fulton, has been a volunteer community mediator with our service since late 2022. During that
time, Ben has demonstrated his enthusiasm for mediation and conflict resolution. Ben is always
willing to assist and is usually among the first of my mediators to volunteer for new cases. In these
mediations, Ben has proven to be an effective mediator."

"Ben impressed me with his skills in mediation. He worked quickly and effectively to narrow down the important issues and was able to uncover much of the middle ground needed for an effective settlement. He demonstrated a true talent with respect to conflict resolution.

I believe that Ben possesses the skills, knowledge and capacity to conduct mediations in both the civil law and family law contexts."

"Thanks to your skillful facilitation, we were able to openly address the underlying issues that had created tension between neighbours, allowing both parties to gain a deeper understanding of each other's perspectives and concerns.

Your approach not only helped us see past our initial positions but also created a safe space for honest communication, which was invaluable in fostering mutual understanding.

With your assistance, we were able to address not only the factual elements of our conflict but also the emotions and intentions behind them. This has allowed us to de-escalate what was becoming a deeply frustrating situation and transform it into one of cooperative problem-solving.

We’re grateful for your patience, neutrality, and expertise in helping us find a path forward and as a result, reach an agreement.

This experience has had a positive impact, on our immediate conflict, and most probably on our future relationship as neighbours.

Thank you once again for your commitment and care.

Your work has made a real difference."

Warm regards,

"I had the pleasure of recently attending a mandatory mediation session that was co-mediated

by Mr. Fulton. I acted as counsel for the defendant in the proceeding.
Throughout the mediation, I found Mr. Fulton to be professional, competent and personable. He asked good questions, engaged in appropriate follow-up, and ultimately helped the parties secure a deal. I believe that he would make a great roster mediator."

Ben, an Osgoode Class of 2018 graduate, founded BenLaw.ca and has partnered with the Osgoode Public Interest Requirement (OPIR) program since 2023. Under OPIR, JD students must complete 40 hours of uncompensated, law-related work in the public interest, supervised by a qualified lawyer.

Ben has provided students with meaningful opportunities, including:

  1. Updating and translating extra-provincial benefit documents to assist low-income Canadians.

  1. Supporting a constitutional challenge to Section 21(1) of Ontario’s Human Rights Code through legal research.

  1. Conducting research and advocacy in Restorative Justice, helping shape impactful strategies.

  1. Investigating Shaken Baby Syndrome, contributing to the withdrawal of criminal charges.

Students consistently report positive experiences:

  • “This placement provided valuable hands-on research experience.”

  • “The supervision was supportive and the feedback improved my skills.”

  • “It broadened my perspective and deepened my understanding of restorative justice.”

Having supported Ben as a student myself, I’ve seen firsthand his reliability and generosity. When students need help meeting their OPIR hours, Ben always steps up—making my role easier and ensuring students receive meaningful, skills-building placements. He continues to be my go-to partner for student placements.

I would like to recommend Ben Fulton as a mediator. He helped me to reach an agreement with my neighbour in a dispute regarding a fence. The neighbour was contemplating litigation. As a result of the mediation we were able to avoid litigation and come to an understanding. I appreciated how Ben Fulton helped my neighbour to understand my position. I felt that the mediation process helped us to move forward and to have a better relationship as neighbours going forward.

Ben Fulton was calm, collected and respectful throughout the communication. I found him to be professional and courteous. Any organization would do well to have him as part of their mediation team.

Kind regards,

Dragan Karanovic
